About this property

Welcome to Vista Caribe

Vista Caribe is a straightforward, moderately rated hotel located in the busy Centro area of Playa del Carmen, just steps from the public beach and within easy reach of the vibrant Quinta Avenida. Guests benefit from a garden setting, complemented by outdoor pools and a pool bar, alongside a restaurant that serves free breakfast each morning. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and is pet-friendly, making it suitable for travelers looking for basic amenities in a convenient location.

The property’s style is practical rather than luxurious, with rooms described as spacious by some guests but noted for needing occasional renovation and minor maintenance. Several reviews mention minor issues such as inconsistent Wi-Fi signal in the rooms and occasional plumbing concerns, but the staff's responsiveness and friendly service receive consistent praise. Breakfast service is generally appreciated, though some found the restaurant food mixed in quality.

Guests staying at Vista Caribe will find it well-situated for exploring local attractions such as Xcaret Park and Parque Los Fundadores, both within a short distance. The hotel’s proximity to the beach and busy streets provides easy access to local eateries and nightlife, making it a practical choice for those who prefer an active environment over a quiet resort experience. Airport transfers and paid parking facilities add to the convenience.

This hotel suits visitors who want close access to Playa del Carmen’s waterfront and central shopping without the high price of more upscale accommodations. Families, couples, and solo travelers who are comfortable with a no-frills environment, and prioritize location and service over extensive facilities, will find Vista Caribe to be a fitting choice.

My first trip to Playa and I couldn't be more pleased with the accommodations. The room is spacious and near the pool. The manager and staff have gone out of their way to provide customized service. Made to order breakfast is included. And may I mention the most fabulous hand crafted margaritas on the planet.

The room is ok, needs renovation but then the price goes up, hot water, room cleaned every day, nice pool, one wall looks awe full because of the air conditioning leaking water. Been here 6 days and for some reason wifi has stopped working which also means no TV. Hope to sort it out, but other than that I’m happy. Restaurant is more than we can pay being on a budget.

So here is the down and dirty about this place. I’ve stayed here several times over the years and overall not too shabby during my previous stays. The staff has always been super friendly and quick to solve any issues. Our last stay was December 2023, almost two years ago (Isla Mujeres has been our go to place since January 2024). We had an issue with the first room they gave us and they fixed it, we moved to another. Now the rooms I have found to be true of most rooms here in Playa del Carmen, they all have issues with dampness and a not so pleasant smell in the restrooms. The hotel was making renovations back then and seems they have not finished as of yet. Now for our current stay of November 21-29, 2025. I booked the family room because I like a large space even if it’s just two of us. While at the airport I get a message from the hotel saying they are undergoing renovations to the pool area so no pool. I love going into the pool after being at the beach a couple of hours, just to wash off the salt water and sand. We were given room 1109, very spacious, check. Bunch of steps to navigate to get from the front half of the room and to the restroom. Definitely not safe when you get up at night and forget you are not at home. So we asked to be moved. Person at the front desk said sure let’s see what we have available. The first room I was shown had at least 5 steps to get to the restroom. So not taking that one. The second room had no steps to climb or go down from. Check, we’ll take it. We moved all our things from room 1109 to the 2nd floor. We make ourselves at home and get ready to get dinner. Ready to lock the door and…… Damn, the door won’t lock because the lock is falling apart. The person at the front knew the lock had an issue because he unlocked the door. So now we are back to room 1109. However, not very clean. Previous residents trash was still in the trash can, one of the queen beds had dirty bedsheets. I pulled back the sheet and found a bunch of hair and stains that looked pretty new. Another, trip to the front desk to get clean sheets. Yes, you better believe I changed those sheets myself. Next day we were moved to room 1304, which is the same room we stayed in December 2023. The room is clean, spacious but the rooms no longer have refrigerator or microwave not good. The new renovations covered the hallway area that use to overlook Quinta, they are making a nightclub. Once done your neighbors across the hall will be a boombox. However, if staying anywhere on or near Quinta you will definitely hear the music till 4 am. So would I stay here again, yes. The place is ideal because the beach is literally less than 300 steps away. However, if this place wants to make things better definitely train your staff on how to clean, give them the tools necessary and not just a bucket, rags and mop. Replace your sheets so that they have no rips, stains or are torn. Invest in better toilet seat covers (they slip and will pinch a gentlemen ). We don’t require much, just a clean room with a refrigerator. Can’t keep cold beers and other drinks otherwise in the room. Those are essential with the climate so near the equator. All other places we have stayed at have a refrigerator (we visit Quintana Roo twice a year since 2015). The staff can only do so much, they have all been super helpful and friendly. They are so nice that they were willing to put some cheese and chorizo we got from Guadalajara in their personal fridge. (Fingers crossed it will be there when I check out. I will add a comment after we leave either way.)So yes, they have a few issues but nothing that can’t be fixed with a little bit of work. The real issue to most of these places is the owners. Owners need to ask themselves if this is somewhere they would stay and what can be done to make this the $100 per night stay —-considering the hundreds of other options at similar prices.

My wife and I have stayed here on multiple occasions and have never had a bad experience. My worse complaint is that the wifi is weak in the rooms. But the rooms are about 100 meters from the Gulf of Mexico and the wifi is fine by the pool so you should not be spending much time in your room anyways.

Location location location... I enjoyed the stay at Vista Caribe very nice and simple, when you come out from the hotel the beach is to your right in plain view and to your left you have Ave Quinta where it's always happening. The rooms are a great size ask for the rooms facing the street great ocean breeze on the balcony during the late evening. Wifi gets 3 out 5, hot water takes a minute or two to come out of the shower but then works fine but it's scarce depending on the time of day, your fine if your not taking 30 minute showers. There's a couple times I came into the room and it's smelled a bit like sewage that's because of unproper venting all you need to do is turn on the shower for a bit and it goes away. So if you could deal with some minors things you have a great location I gave it 5 stars because the staff was friendly we got a complementary breakfast between 7:30am and 11:30am restaurant is right next door by the pool the parking for the car is also on Calle 6 on the right hand corner two blocks up next to a great cheap local taco spot so its close to the hotel and the hotel gives you a pass to park your car for free while you leave a 20 dollar refundable deposit you get back after you check out. So if your more of the resort type this is not the place for you but if your a down to earth person this is the spot. Theres a live band that plays every night until late on the beach with a fire show to finish the night. Will be staying there again.

So booking this hotel I had such low expectations based on all the reviews I'd read. Got to the hotel at 10am. Early check-in was not a problem. There was no help to bring bags in or up the stairs... Again I was prepared to hate my room but was pleasantly surprised. The room was lovely and spacious, Nice big bed, lounge area with a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was clean and had 2 little bars of soap and shampoo. I even bought my own air freshener as some people had complained the rooms smelt. My room didn't. Our balcony looking to the left you could see 5th avenue and to the right you saw the sea. The location was perfect. At night yes you could hear all the noise from 5th avenue, but by then I was so shattered that it didn't bother me and I fell asleep anyway. It was also good for people watching in the evening. The room was cleaned every day by Amelia. Yes they do use the pool for diving lessons. I saw this over the 2 weeks I was there, maybe I was lucky, but they never used it whilst I was in the pool or wanted to go in. I saw the pool being clean often and didn't have any problems letting my 4 year old use them. Yes the hotel does have its faults. If you're expecting a 5* hotel then this isn't the place for you. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely use it again if I was to go back to this area. My room was clean, the hotel was central to everything. Taxi stand right outside, Walmart 5 minutes drive away. All the restaurants and shops you could want. The beach was less than a minute walk away. I won't say the hotel is perfect, yes it does have faults and some things need improvement. But I didn't go all that way on holiday to sit in a room and find all the faults. You're in Mexico if you want a big fancy hotel then be prepared to pay big money. There is a water cooler in the lobby, where you can fill your bottle. The staff were as helpful when they could. I requested a late check out which wasn't a problem.

I only went to the restaurant and the food was ok not really great. hot cakes were great but the chilaquiles spicy and just not good taste nor consistency. REALLY BAD: We had our breakfast there and they would let us use the pool if our restaurant check was more than 200 pesos each one of us. So since my total didn't make it to that amount, they wouldn't let me get in the pool!!! She just let one of us three get in! It's stupid how they wouldn't let us get in by a 15 something pesos difference!
